Preparing for a show is synonymous with getting my "world in order" and it's invigorating to completely focus on doing what I truly enjoy.
STAND is a collection of work themed on two of my favorite subjects: Trees and People. These scenes are places conjured up from my imagination. As you take them in, it is my hope that you may find yourself reflecting on your place in the world.
Trees: Stand in front of the forests and trees and imagine being there. Can you hear the wind whisper, smell the earth, and feel the warmth of the sun or can you feel the chill in the air, the insulating effect of the snow as it muffles sound and cleans the earth of its fall colours?
People: All my people paintings are crowds. Stand in the crowd and notice how you feel. Do you become lost in the crowd? How does walking in a crowd compare to standing in the woods?
We are all part of the same planet but we can become oblivious to this fact as individuals. When nature and humans trade places and share the space we can more deeply explore our relationship with the earth.
STAND reminds us how we behave and are affected as natural beings. It's as simple or complex as you allow it to be.

BIOGRAPHY
Anna Ostberg is a local entrepreneur and artist with a strong business acumen and a solid creative ethic.
In fall 2004 Anna opened the Ruberto-Ostberg Gallery to showcase original (and only original) art forms. The gallery shares space with the Purple Door Art Studio, formerly located on 14th Street NW at 20th Ave. This accessible studio space houses several artists who work on site.
Anna currently paints, maintains a space for other artists and teaches as the Purple Door Art Studio. She also curates shows and is the sole proprietor of the Ruberto-Ostberg Gallery and the purple Door Art Studio.
Born in Thunder Bay Ontario in 1961, Anna moved form home in 1981 to peruse her art education at the University of Manitoba where she graduated with honours in 1985. Her major was drawing and her minor was painting.
